The band has officially announced a farewell tour, giving fans across the globe one last chance to witness the Pomp Rock pioneers in all their glory.
A major highlight of this final trek is a highly anticipated return to the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood on August 7.
For a band that helped define the spectacle of the 70s rock scene, returning to the Sunset Strip feels less like a gig and more like a homecoming.
Fifty Years of “Helluva Band”: The 2026 Anniversary Reissue
As the tour hits the road, the band gives fans another reason to clear some more shelf space in their vinyl record collection.
To mark the 50th anniversary of their sophomore powerhouse, Helluva Band (1976), a special commemorative reissue has been released to coincide with the show dates.
This album was a turning point for ANGEL. It’s the record that gave us “Feelin’ Right” and “The Fortune,” cementing their place as a band that could out-play the prog giants while keeping the hooks big enough for the radio.

Fifty Years of Magic: From Georgetown to the Arena
The timing of this farewell tour and reissues aligns almost perfectly with the band’s 50-plus year history.
The ANGEL story began in Washington, D.C., specifically the vibrant club scene of Georgetown.
The original lineup—DiMino, Meadows, Gregg Giuffria (keyboards), Mickie Jones (bass), and Barry Brandt (drums)—possessed an instant, undeniable chemistry.
From the first chord they played together, they knew they had something that could be built into a spectacle.
That spectacle caught the eye of Gene Simmons. The KISS bassist discovered them in a nightclub and quickly realized they were the perfect “ying” to the KISS “yang.”
While KISS was all black leather and fire, ANGEL was white satin and light.
Simmons helped them land a deal with Casablanca Records, and the rest is rock history.
The Evolution of the Sound: Prog, Glam, and Beyond
ANGEL’s self-titled 1975 debut was a heavy slab of “pomp rock”—a term fans and critics used to describe their blend of hard rock and keyboard-heavy progressive structures.
“Tower” became instant stage favorites, showcasing DiMino’s soaring vocals and Meadows’ melodic, technical guitar work.
As the late 70s rolled in, the band shifted toward a more “glam-pop” or melodic hard rock sound.
Albums like On Earth As It Is In Heaven (1977) and Sinful (1979) produced anthems like “Rock & Rollers” and the perennial holiday classic “The Winter Song.”
ANGEL even made a splash on the silver screen, appearing in the 1980 film Foxes and contributing the track “20th Century Foxes” to the soundtrack.
The ANGEL Personnel and the Legacy
Like many legendary bands, ANGEL saw its share of lineup changes. After the first three albums, bassist Mickie Jones was replaced by Felix Robinson.
Jones, a beloved figure in the band’s history, had previously played in the group BUX with Meadows and had even been invited to join the New York Dolls.
Sadly, Jones passed away in 2009 after a battle with liver cancer, but his contributions to the band’s foundation remain untouchable.
Following the band’s initial split in 1981, the members pursued varied paths:
- Frank DiMino lent his voice to the Flashdance and Metropolis soundtracks (credited as Cycle V).
- Gregg Giuffria found success with his own band, Giuffria (1984 MTV staple “Call to Your Heart”), and later with House of Lords.
- Punky Meadows stepped away from the spotlight for a time before returning with a solo effort, Fallen Angel, in 2016.
The current lineup, which has been remarkably stable since the band officially reformed in 2019, includes Danny Farrow (rhythm guitar), Charlie Calv (keyboards), Billy Orrico (drums), and bassist Tommy “T-Bone” Caradonna, who joined the ranks in 2024.

To celebrate this over half-century milestone and coincide with the farewell tour, the band had previously given fans an ultimate collectors’ piece.
The reissue of their 1975 self-titled debut, Angel, hit shelves in 2025.
The album has been meticulously remastered from the original master tapes, bringing a clarity to tracks like “Tower” that hasn’t been heard since the mid-70s.
In a move that honors the band’s signature aesthetic, the reissue was available in a limited edition white-blue splatter vinyl.
