John Corabi Drops the Mic with ‘New Day’: A Look At A Long-Awaited Solo Debut

John Corabi New Day

John Corabi has been knocking around the hard rock cosmos for the better part of 40 years.

Even so, the guy who famously stepped into Vince Neil’s shoes in Mötley Crüe and fronted The Dead Daisies can still grab a coffee in most towns without causing a riot.

But that under-the-radar status might just take a sharp turn with the arrival of New Day, his very first full-length album of entirely original solo material. Dropping April 24, 2026, via Frontiers Music, this record is a massive shift in gear.

Forget the walls of aggressive amplifiers. Recorded down in Nashville with heavyweight producer and multi-instrumentalist Marti Frederiksen, New Day strips away the excess.

What’s left is an organic, breathing collection of music that pulls heavily from 70s rock, blues, and old-school soul.

A Nashville State of Mind

It’s no shock that songs like “Laurel,” “Good To Be Back Here Again,” and “Love That’ll Never Be” carry a subtle, mood-setting country aura. The city of Nashville has a way of seeping into the floorboards of a recording studio.

Sure, the last Dead Daisies album was cut in Music City too, but where that record leaned into hard-hitting mega-rock, tracks like “Cosi Bella” and the soulful cover of Sly and The Family Stone’s “Everyday People” feel like genuine products of their environment.

Corabi is synonymous with heavy metal, but New Day makes a strong case that this stripped-back, bluesy direction is where he actually belongs.

He sounds incredibly comfortable in his own skin, letting his inspiration drive the bus. You can hear the belief he has in these songs—a belief forged by slumming it around Europe with his band in snug-fitting vans, testing the waters and knowing the music holds up.

Not Your Typical Rock Record

If you’re expecting an all-guns-blazing, crotch-grabbing stadium anthem right out of the gate, the rapturous title track will set you straight.

It’s an upbeat, sun-soaked rocker with a simple message: stop complaining, look around, and enjoy the beautiful little things life offers.

From there, the record unfolds beautifully. “That Memory” is a laid-back, windows-down driving song, while the slow, dripping blues of “Faith, Hope And Love” serves up some of Corabi’s absolute best vocal work to date.

Having Marti Frederiksen on board—adding backing vocals, guitars, and piano alongside his son Evan on drums and B3 organ—creates a relaxed, contented atmosphere. It doesn’t sound like a record rushed to meet a suit’s deadline. It sounds like friends making music they genuinely care about.

The guest list is stacked, too. Guns N’ Roses’ Richard Fortus lays down lead guitar, Paul Taylor brings the clavinet and piano to life, and Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr shreds some killer solos.

The Standout Tracks

Halfway through the album, the Creedence-infused “1969” hits the sweet spot, leaning hard into nostalgia without feeling cheesy. “When I Was Young” is a track that would have easily dominated FM radio 50 years ago, reflecting on the past with genuine affection.

Meanwhile, “Love That’ll Never Be” drips with heartache, capturing the feeling of lost love in a way that feels totally authentic.

We also get to see the return of early singles “Così Bella (So Beautiful)” and the funky, groove-driven “Your Own Worst Enemy,” both slotting perfectly into the back half of the record.

New Day is exactly what its title suggests. It’s a fresh start for an artist who has seen the highest highs and the gritty lows of the music industry.

Outside the context of a band, Corabi sounds completely untethered. If you love the eclectic, analog warmth of 70s rock, this is the album you didn’t know you were waiting for. It leaves you with just one question: why did he wait this long to do it?
