The Mitch Malloy Story: Near Misses and Should’ve Been Hits

Mitch Malloy’s career has been a fascinating journey through rock, pop, and hard rock, marked by incredible versatility and talent.
A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, Malloy found his first big break after signing with RCA.
His self-titled debut album featured an impressive lineup of session musicians, including Mickey Curry, Hugh McDonald, and Michael Thompson.
The album’s lead single, “Anything At All,” became a top 20 rock hit and gained pop chart success, solidifying his arrival on the music scene.
Malloy’s third single, “Our Love Will Never Die,” further elevated his profile, earning him an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
His second album, Ceilings And Walls, continued his trend of collaborating with high-caliber artists, featuring contributions from Bernie Leadon of the Eagles, Mike Rutherford of Genesis, and Paul Carrack.
These connections showcased Malloy’s ability to cross genres and work with some of the best in the business.
One of the most intriguing chapters of Malloy’s career came when he auditioned to be the lead singer for Van Halen after Sammy Hagar’s departure.
Although the role eventually went to Gary Cherone, Malloy recorded several demos with the band.
One track, an instrumental piece given to him by Eddie Van Halen, later became the YouTube release, “It’s the Right Time.”
Fans of Van Halen might also recognize elements of this demo in the band’s unreleased track “That’s Why I Love You,” which was ultimately replaced on Van Halen III by “Josephina.”
Malloy is more than just the cup of coffee with Van Halen. Much, much more.
Over the years, Malloy has maintained a dynamic career, releasing solo albums, serving as a lead singer for Great White, and even doing his own Van Halen tribute.
His latest project The Last Song is a significant milestone, an entire album independently, showcasing his evolution as an artist and his commitment to creative authenticity.
It’s a work of art from a one man show.
From almost chart-topping singles to near-mythical collaborations.
Mitch Malloy has carved out a distinctive path in the music world.
His ability to adapt and grow is just incredible, making him a figure worth celebrating in rock and beyond.
And take a close look at his work with Great White. The mastering on that material is unbelievable. Thanks to Mitch!
